Taking Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oils On Vacation

Posted on Jun 4th, 2007 by Miss Emma : Seeker of Truth Miss Emma

After reading many of the accounts in this forum, I decided to take all the oils I owned with me along with our family on vacation.  I am still very new to the oils, but because of thyroid health issues, I am trying to support my health and that of my family with natural means first.  It requires deliberately teaching myself a new way instead of resorting to the 'knee-jerk reaction' of heading for chemically-based products. What surprised me most was how often these oils helped our family, many times when we had no other recourse available.

1.  Baby boy fell backwards from picnic table bench onto concrete and of course, began screaming in pain.  We immediately ran and applied Lavender Oil.  We noticed neither tenderness nor any bruising afterward.

2.  Though we remembered our Travel Berkey Lite, we forgot our filled water bottles and thermos at home.  I had to buy new containers and distilled water.  Concerned about the quality of the water, I added Peppermint or Thieves to my water.  Two of our children later got sick on the trip, which I attribute to the distilled water.  I didn't get sick at all.  My husband, who used peppermint oil in his water, only became mildly sick.  My only complaint is the surprise and dismay at seeing that the Peppermint and/or Thieves had the power to eat through the Lexan plastic of our Eddie Bauer water bottles!

3.  I mentioned the kids got sick.  We had a lot of puke, and the baby had fever.  Peppermint came to the rescue to help alleviate much of their suffering.  We were, at the time, in very rural Nauvoo Illinois, on a Sunday, with NO hospital or familiar doctor anywhere nearby.

4.  We had cuts, scrapes, slivers, all helped by Lavender oil.  It got to where we didn't go anywhere at all without carrying Lavender and Peppermint on our person, because one time we forgot it back at the room! Oh no!

5.  We used Thieves in the dishwater to help disinfect the stainless steel dishes we brought along (instead of using paper or plastic).

6.  For the first time in a very long time, I did not need a vacation to get over my vacation (road trip from Michigan to Arkansas), and this is WITH hypothyroidism. I chalk it up to the support I received from Endoflex, Peace and Calming, Forgiveness, Valor and Joy.  I was happier, my family was happier.  My irritability (common to sufferers of thyroid imbalance) was especially helped by the daily use of Endoflex (see http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/) and the daily intake of natural iodine (see seaweed articles on http://www.ryandrum.com/ and/or the iodine book at http://www.drbrownstein.com/).  I think I'm going to stay on this 'Essential Oil Vacation' every day!

Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oils For Grieving

Posted on Jun 4th, 2007 by Miss Emma : Seeker of Truth Miss Emma

I recently listened to one of the old training tapes, and Gary said Aroma Life on the heart, followed by Joy, to help heal the heart and stop the trauma from imprinting there. Thought that sounded pretty neat.

I have been working with a friend who's 89 year old mother just lost her sweetheart of 67 years. Mom's CHF was being severely taxed by bronchitis and the overwhelming grief. She could not grieve and every time she cried her lungs would fill up. (Lungs being the area where deep grief and joy are held).

In general, breathing was labored, she couldn't sleep, her legs were filled with edema. The doctor wanted her hospitalized, but this sweet lady just wanted to be home with her daughter. They had never used oils, and Mom wasn't up for meeting anyone new at the time, so I gave them Valor to place on her feet, Gary's bronchitis blend to massage on top of it and apply a warm towel wrap. I left a diffuser with Eucalyptus Radiata which helped her breath and sleep right away, as did the RC for her lungs/bronchial.

When we experience trauma, we often feel disconnected and ungrounded, literally unplugged from those dynamic life forces in the ground and universe. No doubt the chakras have closed shut. To work with a person's feet, especially the elderly, helps them ground and fill up again. It often helps them be steadier and more connected to the feet as well.

My friend's mother brightened up ten shades from just the first treatment. She slept deeply for 5 hours and awoke feeling refreshed and hopeful. It was just as helpful to her daughter who also regained her color and brightness. (The daughter had been quite grey in color and energy and her emotions had felt "flat lined," a little Valor on her feet, and Lemon on her hands to inhale brought her right back!) I also left some lemon for her to diffuse knowing that would begin to ease the mother's depression.

My friend marveled that 12 hours earlier, her mother was in such a state as to need hospitalization, and yet now she was full of life again and quickly recovering. Her edema had lessened significantly as well.

The next day I happened to listen to that tape, so we have intended to visit again when I would apply the Aroma Life and Joy and do a VitaFlex session on mother's feet, but for the moment, we are operating on what she seems to want and when. She's doing fine and I'll probably be invited back in the next week or so. They also want to begin supporting the CHF in general.

Hope this is useful,
-Deborah Carlton

Banana News - A Must Read

Posted on Jun 15th, 2007 by Miss Emma : Seeker of Truth Miss Emma

This  is interesting.  After  reading this, you'll never look at a
banana in the same way again.

Bananas  contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose
combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and
substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a
strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one
fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It &
nbsp; can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses
and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression:According to a  recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst
people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a
banana. This is because bananas contain  tryptophan, a type of protein
that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve
your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the  pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains
regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin
in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood  Pressure:This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in
potassium yet low in salt, making it ;perfect to beat blood pressure.
So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the
banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to
reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain  Power: 200 students at  a Twickenham (Middlesex) school (England)
were helped through their exams  this year by eating bananas at
breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost  their brain power.
Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning
by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help
restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without
resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a
banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach
and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels,
while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you
suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on  bananas between meals helps to keep blood
sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching  for the insect bite cream, try rubbing
the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it
amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous
system.

Overweight and at work?  Studies at the Institute of Psychology in
Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like
chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers
found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The
report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food  cravings, we need to
control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods
every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers:The banana is  used as the dietary food against intestinal
disorders because of its soft  texture and smoothness. It is the only
raw fruit that can be eaten without  distress in over-chronicler cases.
It also neutralizes over-acidity and  reduces irritation by coating the
lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling"
fruit that can lower both the physical and  emotional temperature of
expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat
bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal  Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help  SAD sufferers
because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking  &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up
smoking. The B6, B12 they  contain, as well as the potassium and
magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of
nicotine withdrawal.

Stress:Potassium is a  vital mineral, which helps normalize the
heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain  and regulates your body's water
balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby
reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of
a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes:According to research in The New England Journal of
Medicine, eating bananas as part of a  regular diet can cut the risk of
death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts:Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill
off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with
the yellow side out. Carefully  hold the skin in place with a plaster or
surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare
it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate,
three times the  phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and
twice the other vitamins  and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and
is one of the best value foods  around So maybe its time to change that
well-known phrase so that we say, "A  banana a day keeps the doctor
away!"

PS:  I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of
the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth.
Amazing fruit !!!

Discover A Few Organic Solutions You've Been Searching For...

Posted on Jun 15th, 2007 by Miss Emma : Seeker of Truth Miss Emma
Wow! I can hardly believe another year has rolled by.
Summer is upon us again with all the summer activities like
traveling, gardening, outdoor activities, and projects.

Therapeutic - grade essential oils are very effective solutions
to help deal with all sorts of summertime ailments.

My number one favorite essential oil is peppermint.
Peppermint is especially helpful in the summer months.

Try some of these PEPPERMINT OIL ideas this summer:

Temporary Fatigue or Lack of Energy: Peppermint is very
stimulating. Inhale it & put a drop or 2 on your big toes.
Put a couple drops of peppermint in water and drink it.

Heat Fatigue:
Peppermint oil, rubbed on base of skull,
inhaled, and added to drinking water.

For Digestion and Heartburn:
Put a few drops in an empty
capsule and take internally after a heavy meal. (Be sure
you are using therapeutic-grade essential oils for this.)  Rub 4-6 drops
in the palm and rub over stomach and around the navel to
relieve indigestion, flatulence and diarrhea.

Nausea or Motion Sickness:
Put a drop of peppermint on
your tongue, then on your hand and inhale it. Another way
is to rub several drops of peppermint on the abdomen.

Headache:
Put a couple of drops on the back of the neck
and on the temples, then in your hands & inhale.

Allergy and Cold Congestion:
Place a drop of Peppermint
oil on the tongue and inhale into the nose and sinuses to
relieve congestion.

Injuries: Apply peppermint oil immediately to bumps and
bruises to relieve pain.

Cool off on a Hot Day: Drink a drop of Peppermint oil mixed
in a glass of cold water.

Poison Ivy or Poison Oak:
Apply Peppermint oil on location
neat or dilute with V-6 Vegetable Mixing Oil.

Poison Ivy -  Help with Itching
1 cup of cold water
¼ cup of cider vinegar
9 drops of Lavender essential oil
3 drops of Peppermint essential oil
2 drops of Roman Chamomile oil
Blend well. Place in plastic bowl with tight sealing lid. This
blend is great to keep cool in your refrigerator. Soak a
washcloth in this solution to gently apply to area of skin with
the poison ivy.

Itching: Apply a drop of peppermint oil topically on
unbroken skin to stop itching.

Insect Repellent:
Add 10 drops of peppermint to a 4 oz.
bottle of distilled water. This is my favorite insect repellent
for working in the garden. It works wonders to keep the
biting Deer Flies off.  I have had no bites while using this
simple formula. Be careful not to get any near your eyes.

Take the peppermint water and spray where insects enter
your house.

Remove Ticks: Apply a drop of Peppermint oil on a QTip
and dot it on the tick.  Wait for it to let go, then remove the
tick.

To Kill Aphids:
Add 4-5 drops of peppermint oil to 4 ounces
of water and spray the plants.

LAVENDER OIL

Lavender is another wonderful oil anyt ime but especially
useful in the summer.

Here are some summer uses for LAVENDER OIL:

Burns and Sunburn
- Apply 1-3 drops on burn location to
cool tissue and reduce inflammation. Apply 3-6 times daily
or as needed.

LavaDerm Cooling Mist from Young Living is another
option for sunburn. It has lavender and Aloe Vera.
LavaDerm Cooling Mist #3249

After-Sun Healing Spray
½ cup distilled water
¼ cup aloe vera gel
8 drops of Lavender essential oil
2 drops of Roman Chamomile essential oil
2 drops Geranium essential oil

Blend together and pour into a 12-16 ounce fine mist spray
bottle. Shake well. Spray skin if you have been over exposed to the
sun. This is very healing and soothing to sunburned skin.
Do not get any in eyes.

Insomnia: Lavender is well known for its  calming and
sedative properties. Rub a couple drops on the back of the
neck and shoulders. Rub a drop of lavender oil on your
palms and smooth on your pillow, then inhale.

Bee Sting or Insect Bite:
Put a drop of lavender on the area
to stop itching and reduce swelling.

Headaches:
Lavender is good for headaches.  Put a couple
drops in your hand then inhale.  Then rub a drop on your
temples,  the back of the neck across forehead or on
location.

Allergies:
Diffuse Lavender oil to alleviate the symptoms of
allergies. Rub a drop of lavender oil between your palms
and inhale deeply to help alleviate the symptoms of hay
fever.

Mood Uplifting: Diffuse or put a couple drops in your hand
and then inhale. Apply direct application.  Lavender also
helps PMS symptoms.

Poison Ivy and Poison Oak: Apply 2-3 drops of lavender oil
to stop the itching and heal the skin.

Cuts, Scrapes and Other minor injuries
: Cleanse & soothe
cuts or scrapes.

First-Aid Spray
5 drops lavender
3 drops tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
2 drops cypress
Mix above oils thoroughly in 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Add this
to 8 ounces of distilled water and shake vigorously. Put in a
spray bottle. Spray minor cuts and wounds before applying
bandage. Repeat 2-3 times daily for 3 days. Complete the
healing process by applying a drop or two of tea tree

Thank You for Helping To Make A Difference Tday!

It's Baffling To Think The Nuclear Industry And The Global Food Industry Would Ever Be Linked. But They Are.

Right now, food treated with ionizing radiation must be labeled as "Treated with irradiation" or "Treated by radiation." But according to Food and Water Watch, the irradiation industry wants to misleadingly label these foods as "electronically pasteurized" or "cold pasteurized."

Many serious health problems have been observed in lab animals fed irradiated foods, including premature death, cancer, tumors, stillbirths, mutations, organ damage, immune system failure and stunted growth. In one experiment, genetic damage was detected in young children who ate irradiated wheat.

In addition to health risks, radiation destroys vitamins, protein, essential fatty acids and other nutrients in foods – up to 80 percent of vitamin A in eggs and half the beta carotene in orange juice.

In spite of this alarming research the FDA is proposing a rule that would allow the use of the term "pasteurized" on some types of irradiated food and not require any labeling on others.

Pasteurization is not the same as irradiation!

Would You Agree That Reading A Label Is Very Important?

Posted on Jun 26th, 2007 by Miss Emma : Seeker of Truth Miss Emma
I would like to take a moment to show you how oil labeled by a name can be completely different then what they should be.

For instance, therapeutic-grade essential oil may be labeled as "Basil" and have a botanical name (Ocimun basilicum),  but it can have a widely different therapeutic actions, depending on its chemistry. For example, Basil high in linalool or fenchol is primarily used for its antiseptic properties. However, Basil high in methyl chavicol is more anti-inflammatory than antiseptic and is antispasmadic. A third type, Basil high in eugenol, has both anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect.

Of even greater concern is the fact that some oils are adulterated, engineered or "extended" with the use of synthetic chemical.  They can be very detrimental, causing rashes, burning, skin irritations, allergic reactions, and etc., besides being devoid of any therapeutic effects.

For example , pure Frankincense is often extended with colorless, odorless solvents, such as diethyplhthalate or dipropylend glycol. The only way to distinguish the "authentic" from the "adulterated" is to subject the essential oil to rigorous analytical testing using state of-the-art gas chromatography, mass spectroscopy, and NMRI carbon testing.   In addition, oils that are steam distilled are far different from those that are solvent extracted.

When odorless solvents are used and to high of heat and temperature is done during distillation this is what other aromatic compounds are left out which makes true thereapeutic -grade essential oil work and why other grades of oil will not work.

Phenols increase the volicity in the blood by increasing the oxygen and moving it along.  Phenols are antiseptic, and kills bacteria, an are anti-oxidant which increases the oxygen into the tissue to relieve muscles spasms fast.

Esters and aldehydes have a stimulating and sedating effect on the nerve endings.  Our Basil has  72% methyl charvicol which works fast on spasmodic muscles.  If the muscle doesn’t relax then the nerve may be affected, so you would want to look for an oil that has Esters which makes it calming and relaxing to the nerve.  For instance by using 1 drop Basil, 3 Eucalyptus by applying it to the chest, it may help relax the lungs and increase the oxygen. Or you may use 3 Basil and 1 Black Pepper as a raindrop up the spine for the anti-viral effect.  You use less drops of the one with the highest Phenols, because the less you use, it pushes the effect you want.   For skin problems such as shingles and herpes simplex, you can relieve the pain and itching by using 7 drops Bergamot (for the calming and soothing feeling), 3 Melissa (for a soothing effect), 5 Lavender ( for balancing).  When the problem is better reduce the Lavender and add Myrrh for the finishing effect.

People with high acid need to use oils that are high in Sesquiterpenes. Sesquiterpenes are antiseptic, anti-inflammatory. They work on the liver and are a gland stimulant. They increase oxygen around the pineal and pituitary glands and have the ability to cross the blood brain barrier.  If you are attracted to phenols then you may have a bacteria in the body. If the body is building mucous then use Lavender to balance the parasympathetic system that produce mucous and get your body in an alkaline state.  Also use equal parts of Lemon and Peppermint to cut mucous.

Most viruses, fungi, and bacteria cannot live in the presence of many therapeutid-grade essential oils, specially those high in phenols, carvacrol, thymol, and terpenes. This, perhaps, offers a modern explanation why in the Old Testament, prophet Moses used aromatic substances to protect the Israelites from the plagues that decimated the ancient Egyptians.  A vast body of testimonials suggest that those who use essential oils are less likely to contract infectious disease. Moreover, oils users who do contract an infectious illness tend to recover faster than those using antibiotics.

Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oils are aromatic, volatile liquids distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds. Vegetable oils can become oxidized and rancid over time and are not antibacterial. Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oils on the other hand cannot go rancid and are powerful antimicrobial. They are chemically very complex, consisting of hundreds of different chemical compounds. Moreover, they are highly concentrated and far more potent then dried herbs.  They are oxygenating and help transport nutrients to the cells of the body. Without oxygen, nutrients cannot be assimilated; therefore, the oxygenating essential oils can help us maintain our health.

Unlike synthetic chemicals, therapeutic-grade essential oil chemicals are diverse in there effects and actions. Various constituents in therapeutic-grade essential oils have been proven to increase oxygen intake of the cells as well as their ability to use oxygen from other source. No two oils are alike. Some constituents, such as aldehydes found in Lavender and Chamomile, are antimicrobial and calming. Eugenol, found in Cinnamon and Clove is antiseptic, and stimulating. Ketones, found in Lavender, Hyssop, and Patchouly, stimulate cell regeneration and liquefy mucous. Phenols, found in Oregano and Thyme oil, are highly soothing to inflamed tissue. They were found in 1994 to go beyond the blood brain barrier, increasing oxygen around the pineal and pituitary glands.
